Innovation Academy
Africa is home to 12.5% of the world’s population. However, it accounts for less than 1% of global research output. Universities from Europe, America, and Asia compete for the top research rankings, with a smattering of African universities appearing after the first 200. Our Innovation Academy is dedicated aims to promoting high-quality scientific research in African universities, particularly in Nigeria.Over the last nine years, we have worked with several Nigerian universities (the Nigerian Turkish Nile University in Abuja, Anambra State University, and the University of Lagos) to provide high-level research and teaching excellence training and mentorship to academy staff
In 2013, we trained 60 faculty members from four faculties at Anambra State University (science, agriculture, social sciences, and engineering). The training aimed to provide the faculty with the best resources for academic and professional development. For senior faculty members, ACILD has organized research ethics training and grant development seminars. We have also organized manuscript writing, and grant development training sessions for faculty members and Ph.D. students in the engineering and agriculture faculty.
The Youth Leadership Program fosters excellence in Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics and helps young people achieve personal and professional growth in preparations for their careers. We provide workshops, seminars and symposia for students in universities and secondary schools. Such programs include the Youth Leadership Summit and African Science Week. We also provide resources and training for teachers and faculty through a number of initiatives in partnership with the National University Commission. Our aim is to initiate a boom in African economies that begins in the school corridors of Africa.
