To be a legendary reference point for developing leadership and excellence in science, innovation and development.
ABOUT US
The African Centre for Innovation and Leadership Development (ACILD) is a non-governmental development organization with offices in Nairobi, Toronto, and Abuja. ACILD was established in 2013, to provide resources that promote innovation and leadership in Africa through the empowering of science and technology researchers especially youth. Our greatest heartache at ACILD is seeing that many resourceful and brilliant African youths are hindered and confused by a lack of sufficient guidance, mentoring and inadequate resources. Currently, there is rapid economic transformation occurring in many African countries. Our hope for Africa is that the boom in African economies will also be felt among the school corridors and innovation hubs in Africa. Education and innovation are keys to the long-term growth of the continent. Africa has much to offer in terms of fostering innovation and building the next generation of leaders. It is what we do with what we already have that can really set the trajectory of the region.
It is through education that the daughter of a peasant can become a doctor, that a son of a mine worker can become the head of the mine that a child of farm workers can become the president of a great nation. It is what we make out of what we have, not what we are given, that separates one person from another” (Nelson Mandela)
Achievement
At ACILD, we advocate for excellence in STEM education because we believe that science education is critical to the development of any nation and that science and technology are impossible to achieve without science education. Over 1500 adolescents have benefited from our Stem Promotion program. ACILD is also a leader in youth development, having trained over 10,000 students and faculty members from Nigerian universities (Anambra State University, University of Lagos, Nigeria Turkish Nile University) to become better leaders through its workshops on fostering innovation and leadership.
In 2015, we launched “The Nutrido Program TM,” which has since been implemented in over 20 secondary schools in Abuja, Nigeria. Through this initiative, we hoped to encourage adolescents to eat more fruits and vegetables and less junk food. In addition, ACILD developed “My Extension Officer TM,” a mobile application and virtual innovation that has connected over 7000 farmers in Makueni County, Kenya, with sources of improved agricultural technologies. Through our research we have identified the barriers and facilitators to implementing health intervention programs (such as MomConnect and oral rehydration therapy) in Africa.
We hope to promote education, health, food security, and economic well-being in African communities. We hope you will be able to join us on this journey.
